Downloading Tutorial
One of the most common questions I get from people new to computers and the internet is this: "I downloaded something off the internet and then I couldn't find it. How are you supposed to do that? Where did it go?"
Without knowing what program they were using and exactly how they went about it I can't really help them much, except to explain to them the system I've pieced together over the years to get around this problem.
First, before you even get on the internet, make a place for the download to go. Open Windows Explorer (usually Start/Programs/Windows Explorer). Then right click an empty area in the right pane of Explorer and chose New/Folder. You will see something like this on your screen:
A
new folder will be made attacked directly to your C drive called
"New Folder" with a blinking cursor in it, ready
for you to re-name. Call it "1 Downloads" or
"1 4 Downloads" or
anything you like as long as the first character is the number "1".
This will put the new folder at or near the top of the hierarchy of
folders on your C drive making it easy to find.
